British Turkey has teamed up with celebrity TV chef Phil Vickery to encourage consumers to eat more turkey outside the traditional Christmas season.
Vickery, a regular on BBC2’s Ready Steady Cook, is creating 12 special recipes to demonstrate the ease of cooking with turkey all year round. The recipes, all with a seasonal slant, including the key barbecue time, will be made into wipe-clean recipe cards for distribution among consumers via retailers, the British Turkey website, helpline and regional newspapers across the UK.
Vickery, a favourite of millions of viewers of This Morning and currently presenting a series on British food on the flagship ITV1 programme, is also putting his name to a 2007 recipe calendar featuring a different British Turkey recipe for each month.
Said Vickery: “I’m a keen supporter of all things British and delighted to be involved with British Turkey. A lot of people don’t realise just how versatile, tasty and healthy turkey can be. So I’m looking forward to inspiring them with some really simple but delicious dishes.”
Kim Burgess, Chairman of the British Turkey Sector Group’s Publicity & Marketing Committee, revealed that research carried out in 2005 proves mouth-watering recipes are key in encouraging shoppers to buy British turkey.
She added: “Consumers also love and trust TV chefs so we feel, with Phil on board, we have a winning combination that will entice new users to try turkey outside Christmas and open their eyes to its versatility and taste. Together with Phil we will also really hit home the message that British Turkey, especially when backed by the accreditation of the Quality British Turkey mark, can be enjoyed with complete confidence and is truly a healthy, tasty, low-fat superfood.”
