Martin Johnson, this year’s President of SPARKS, the children’s medical charity, and captain of the famous World Cup England Rugby Union Team in 2003, recently took time off from the rugger pitch to accept a £4,731.40 cheque from the British Turkey industry.
Kim Burgess, chairman of the British Turkey Sector Group’s Publicity & Marketing Committee, said that the money was raised through raffles, auctions and games at the annual British Turkey Awards held a few days previously at Claridge’s. She added “We are proud to be linked with SPARKS that funds groundbreaking research into so many different paediatric conditions. The amount raised reflects the generosity of all who attended the dinner.”
The British Turkey Awards showcase the on going efforts of retailers and manufacturers to encourage consumers to buy and enjoy British Turkey. The awards also recognise the talents and hard work of recipe writers, butchers and chefs.
