Make
sure you look out for the British Turkey Quality Mark available in most
supermarkets, when you are buying turkey meat. It's your guarantee that
you are buying the best quality turkey meat.
The Quality Mark is backed by a far-reaching quality assurance scheme which highlights some of the highest standards in the world achieved by British turkey farmers. Launched three years ago the Quality British Turkey Mark (QBT Mark) is the second most recognised mark (71% recognition) in the meat and poultry category, suprisingly, ahead of the widely used Red Tractor icon (30% recognition). Its aim: to decrease volumes of imported turkey and provide customers with assurance of food safety, animal welfare and traceability. Turkey farmers are independently inspected against more than 200 individual quality criteria covering all aspects of rearing and production.
Food safety and quality assurance are critical factors across the food manufacturing industry. Our scheme highlights best practice in hygiene controls, health and safety, packaging, storage and transport to provide a greater assurance of safe food reaching your table.
