Criteria
The judges will consider the following in every relevant category:
- Taste: flavour, succulence
- British Turkey credentials
All products must have been available to buy during the period June 2009 to May 2010. All products must be presented in correct packaging.
The judges will look at the following:
- 1) Best Meal Solution (Added Value)
- e.g. Flavour enhanced, stuffed, jointed, in pastry, marinated, in sauce/breadcrumbs
Appealing packaging; similarity of cooked product to on-pack image; cooking /serving suggestions; convenience; suitability for target audience eg. busy mums. - 2) Best Christmas Convenience (whole birds, joints and crowns)
- e.g. ready to cook, foil tray, stuffed, self-basting, flavoured, with accompaniments
Suitability to make the most important meal of the year fool proof and convenient for less experienced home cooks. To include price and taste. - 3) Best Christmas Traditional (whole birds only)
- Can be farmed, organic, free-range, special breed – no added flavours, stuffing, bastes etc.
Christmas appeal; suitability for manufacturers’ target consumer, appearance before and after cooking; clarity of cooking instructions; taste. - 4) Best Branded (judged packaged, uncooked)
- On-shelf stand out; packaging appeal; cooking/serving instructions; suitability for target consumer.
- 5) Best Innovation
- Retail or catering sector; bringing new consumers to British turkey either at Christmas or all year round; recipe inspiration; serving suggestions.
- 6) Best Catering
- Suitability for target market eg.foodservice/ cost sector/fine dining; everyday or seasonal use of turkey. Price per portion and full cooking instructions must be provided or product cannot be judged.
- 7) Best Ready to Eat
- e.g. Cooked meat for deli counter, hand carved, smoked, pate, pie, pre-packed sliced/chunks/pieces
Appearance; flavour and succulence; versatility; convenience. - 8) Retailer of the Year (best retail range)
- Comprehensive range of British Turkey products to suit a variety of consumer positioning; diversity of cuts/joints/whole birds; all year availability plus seasonal choice; support of British Turkey industry; shelf appeal, packaging/presentation of products; new product development and innovation.
